Windows Security Identifier

A Security Identifier (SID) is a unique value of variable length used to identify a trustee (user, group, or computer). In Digital Forensics, SIDs are crucial for mapping registry activity to specific users, even after accounts are deleted.

RID 500 Built-in Administrator. Often the target of attacks. Exists even if renamed.
RID 501 Built-in Guest account. Usually disabled by default.
RID 1000+ Standard created users. First user is 1000, second is 1001, etc.
